When I was younger, I only looked forward to Ramadhan for two reasons :
1. The bazaar and the Ramadhan buffets
2. It meant there was 30 days left till Eid!
As I grew older, during my teenager years, these reasons changed. I loved Ramadhan for another 2 reasons :
1. Losing weight
2. The shopping for Eid!
At 19, I still love Ramadhan. But it isn't for the same reasons I used to love Ramadhan. Breaking fast at home is now a very humble affair. Shopping for Eid is a mere stop at one shop for less than an hour. Losing weight is a given but it isn't the reason I love Ramadhan. I love Ramadhan because with this month comes a very special spirit that people adopt. It is the spirit of giving. The spirit of empathy. The spirit of being humble. And people are beginning to become more aware of another important aspect of Ramadhan : the spirit of being grateful for the blessings in life. The chance to be alive, even for just one more day and witnessing the beauty of life. In Ramadhan, happiness is no longer revolved around money and wealth. Happiness doesn't come with a price tag. For my family, it is coming together during breaking fast. For me, it is the luxury of time that makes way for self-reflection and improvement.
Whatever it is for you, share it with us! May it also serve as a reminder to everyone what we should be grateful about in life.
How to participate?
